Brand Guide
Graphic Identity Overview
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is a unique, nationally recognized advanced computing, cyberinfrastructure and academic research center based at UC San Diego. It also serves as a foundational pillar of the UC San Diego Halıcıoğlu School of Data Science and Computing (HSDSC).
To maintain consistency across print, web, video and digital mediums, please adhere to the following guidelines.
Wordmark vs. Official Logo
In alignment with campus branding standards, SDSC's primary visual assets are categorized as wordmarks rather than traditional logos to better reflect the university's unified identity system.
Primary Graphic Identifier: The SDSC Wordmark
The San Diego Supercomputer Center spelled-out wordmark is the center’s primary graphic identifier. Because SDSC’s core mission focuses on the national research community, this outward-facing graphic should be used for most marketing, research platforms and external communications. It must be used in conjunction with the HSDSC official logo (see below).
Clear Space Requirements: The clear space around the primary wordmark should be a minimum of one cap height (the height of the capital “S”). Please ensure no text, graphics, or other visual elements encroach upon this space.
Secondary Graphic Identifier: The SDSC Initials
The SDSC initials wordmark serves as the center's secondary graphic identifier. It is designed primarily for decorative, accent, or textile purposes. It should complement, rather than replace, the primary spelled-out wordmark on official documents, external web headers, or primary research collateral.
Clear Space Requirements: The clear space around the initials wordmark should be a minimum of one cap width (the width of the capital “S”). Please ensure no text, graphics, or other visual elements encroach upon this space.
Minimum Size
The minimum width for the primary wordmark in all web and digital applications is 150 pixels or 1.5 inches.
The minimum width for the SDSC initials wordmark in all web and digital applications is 50 pixels or .5 inch.
Color
The official colors of the SDSC wordmark are PMS 2767 navy blue (#182B49) and PMS 1245 gold (#C69214). The wordmark can also appear as one color in either PMS 2767 navy blue or black. When using the wordmark over an image or dark background, the wordmark should be reversed to white. See UCSD Brand Colors for more information.
To ensure brand consistency, please do not:
- Deviate from specified colors
- Reproduce the wordmark in solid gold
- Tint or outline the wordmark.
Using the Wordmarks
- Use only approved SDSC wordmark files.
- Do not stretch, crop, recolor or alter the wordmark.
- Maintain clear space around the wordmark so it remains legible.
- Use digital wordmark files for web, email and presentations.
- Use print-ready or vector files for large-format and vendor-produced materials.
Co-Branding with HSDSC
As a foundational pillar of UC San Diego's Halıcıoğlu School of Data Science and Computing, SDSC regularly highlights its institutional relationship with the school and the broader university. When showcasing this connection, the primary SDSC wordmark is frequently paired alongside the official HSDSC sub-brand logo. Both graphics should maintain equal visual weight and their respective clear-space boundaries when placed nearby.

View the HSDSC Brand Guide.
UC San Diego Sub-Brand Logo
The UC San Diego sub-brand logo features the UC San Diego logo with "San Diego Supercomputer Center" positioned directly below it. This graphic is tailored for an internal or campus-specific audience and may be used when space is limited to only one logo.
For national or outward-facing communications, the primary San Diego Supercomputer Center wordmark remains the preferred identifier to ensure clear visibility within the broader research community.
