The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), in partnership with Interactive Supercomputing, Inc., will be offering a one-day workshop on Advanced Star-P® parallel programming for UC MATLAB® users on Monday, October 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room 279, SDSC's hand-on training lab.

The workshop is open to all researchers throughout the University of California system. A detailed agenda can be accessed on SDSC's Training Events Calendar. Attendees can register online until September 30th. Dr. Roope Astala, of Interactive Supercomputing Inc., will be leading the workshop.

"This is a unique opportunity for University of California researchers to get an in-depth presentation of the advanced Star-P system and become familiar with these new tools and techniques to enable high-performance computing research across a wide variety of scientific disciplines," said Dr. Astala.

As a software platform to link between MATLAB tools and high-performance parallel computing resources, Interactive Supercomputing's Star-P open software platform allows scientists, engineers and analysts to transparently use HPC resources using familiar desktop tools. Star-P software is a client-server parallel-computing platform designed to work with multiple Very High Level Language (VHLL) client applications such as MATLAB or Python, and has built-in tools to expand VHLL computing capability through addition of libraries and hardware-based accelerators. At SDSC, the software is installed on the supercomputer center's OnDemand system, and offered to all University of California researchers.

About SDSC
As an organized research unit of UC San Diego, SDSC is a national leader in creating and providing cyberinfrastructure for data-intensive research. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible and integrated network of computer-based resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC is a founding member of the national TeraGrid, which recently reached a combined compute capability equal to one petaflop (10^15 calculations per second).

About Interactive Supercomputing Inc.
Interactive Supercomputing (ISC), is a privately held company based in Waltham, Mass., was launched in 2004 to commercialize Star-P, an interactive parallel computing platform, for a range of biomedical, financial, and government laboratory research applications. With automatic parallelization and interactive execution of existing desktop simulation applications, Star-P merges two previously distinct environments - desktop computers and high performance servers - into one.
