SDSC Hosts Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists

The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) hosted a five-day Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) August 16-21, 2004.
The CSIG introduced geoscientists to modern information technology tools. Major topics included Data Modeling, Web Services, and Geographic Information Systems. Sessions also touched on key concepts in Grid Computing, Parallel Programming, and Scientific Workflows, topics to be covered in more detail in a subsequent Institute offering.
More than 40 people attended, selected from a larger pool of applicants. The participants are primarily graduate students and postdocs from American Universities, but also include attendees from Canada, Germany, Turkey, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, the National Science Foundation, and representatives from industry.
