San Diego Supercomputer Center Launches the 2005 TeacherTECH Summer Computing Institute

Published May 31, 2005

The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) today announced the launch of the 2005 TeacherTECH Summer Computing Institute. Taught by the SDSC education department staff and a variety of guest lecturers (see below for details), the four-session series is designed to allow K-12 teachers from the San Diego School District to explore and examine different multimedia and Web applications for use in classroom curriculum.

"Today's technology is advancing at break-neck speed. Through this training program, San Diego teachers will be able stay ahead of the curve in order to provide their students with the best instruction possible," said Diane Baxter, director of SDSC's education department. "When they walk out our doors on the last day, teachers will know how to use powerful technological tools to help engage their students."

The TeacherTECH 2005 series offers the following four sessions and space is very limited. For more information, log on to http://education.sdsc.edu/teachertech.

TeacherTECH Summer Science Week

For the first time, SDSC is partnering with the San Diego City Schools Educational Technology Department in a pilot program to integrate technology into seventh and eighth grade classrooms. Held June 27-uly 1, the program will be in conjunction with the San Diego City Schools Enhancing Science Education Through Technology (ESETT) project and the SALI (Science and Life Issues) Technology Integration Committee. Attendees will hear lectures from SDSC and Scripps Institute of Oceanography followed by hands-on activities intended to enhance classroom curriculum and learning.
