Cyberinfrastructure Seminar Series features TeraGrid Overview

Charlie Catlett, Director of TeraGrid, will present information on the resources and services available to support the needs of research and education communities, Monday, April 10 starting at 11:00 a.m. PDT. The presentation will take place at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in Illinois and will be available through the Access Grid. It will also be Webcast at www.cichannel.org.
The National Science Foundation has launched a five-year initiative with $150 million in funding to operate and enhance TeraGrid, a distributed national infrastructure supporting computational science. TeraGrid -- built over the past four years -- is the world's largest, most comprehensive distributed cyberinfrastructure for open scientific research. Through high-performance network connections, TeraGrid integrates high-performance computers, data resources and tools, and high-end experimental facilities around the country.
The TeraGrid provides access to over 100 TeraFlops of computing resources, as well as access to scientific data collections, scientific instruments, visualization analysis systems, and extensive infrastructure for managing and transfering data among the eight Resource Provider sites that form TeraGrid. TeraGrid is working closely with the scientific community to develop Science Gateways, designed to support the unique needs of diverse scientific communities to make effective use of the TeraGrid resources for advancing their research.
The Cyberinfrastructure Seminar Series is a set of presentations on cyberinfrastructure and related research organized by NCSA and SDSC. These seminars are available on site at the presenting institution and remotely via the Access Grid, and webcast via CI Channel. All Access Grid sites are welcome to participate in this seminar.
